MoMA is currently holding an exhibition entitled “High and Low”, which celebrates pop artist Roy Lichtenstein as one of the most highly esteemed living artists (in 1989 his “Torpedo...Los!” (1963) was sold at Christie’s for five and a half million dollars).
In 1992 the museum is to hold the first comprehensive retrospective of his work. Diane Waldman, curator of the Guggenheim, is one of the people working on this exhibition, which, apart from his most famous paintings, will also be showing some works on paper and some of his few sculptures.
The first stop on the European circuit will be the Reina Sofia Centre in Madrid, although the date for this has not yet been fixed. After that it will probably go to Berlin. In celebration of his sixtieth birthday in 1993, more works will be added to the exhibition, and it will be shown in the renovated rooms of the Guggenheim
